Neighborhood Matters: Through Strength and Struggle

Aligning with Northeastern's celebration of Asian American Heritage Month in February, the Archives and Special Collections will be screening Through Strength and Struggle, a documentary produced by the Chinese Progressive Association Workers Center. Through a series of interviews, this film focuses on displaced Chinese garment workers from the P&L and Beverly Rose companies in the 1980s, and their organization to attain retraining and new jobs. The workers describe their confrontations with racism, sexism, and government bureaucracy, and their developing sense of empowerment in the course of their activism. A discussion will follow the film. Lunch will be served.
