DH Open Office Hours: Exploring Massachusetts Historical Data

Joel Lee, the DSG Data Engineer, and Misha Ankudovych, DSG Project Specialist Co-op will share their data explorations of transcribed XML files from the Massachusetts Historical Society’s large collection of letters and diary entries from important colonial Americans like John Quincy Adams and Catherine Maria Sedgwick. In this presentation, they will describe their processes and the data workflows for building three data visualizations from these XML documents: network graphs, subject timelines, and dateline geocoding. Their end project is a static website where one can interact with a more stable and routinized version of past technical explorations.

This Open Office Hour will be held in person at the Centers for Digital Scholarship/Snell 360. The DH Open Office Hour will be brown-bag style so bring a lunch or any snacks that you want! This event is free and open to the public, but registration is required. Submit your registration at our RSVP form.
